Chop Suey

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Pork, Beef or Chicken, cubed
  • 1 Medium Onion, chopped
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 and 1/2 Cups Hot Water
  • 1 Can Water Chestnuts, drained
  • 1 Tablespoon Soy Sauce
  • 1 Can Chow Mein Noodles
  • 1/2 Cup Butter
  • 2 Cups Celery, diced
  • Dash of Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 Can Bean Sprouts, drained
  • 2 Tablespoons Corn Starch
  • 1 Teaspoon Sugar

Instructions

Melt 1/4 cup of the butter in a large skillet and brown the meat. Add the rest of the butter and the onions and cook for 5 minutes. Add the celery, salt, pepper and hot water. Cover and cook for 5 minutes. Add the bean sprouts and water chestnuts. Mix thoroughly and cook for 5 minutes. Mix the cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water and stir to a smooth paste. Add to the chop suey along with the soy sauce and sugar. Serve with rice.
